RESPONDING TO OUR FRIENDS

C. & P. S.

Some American teens & school children who are curious about life here in Indonesia have been asking us questions via email. We thought we would respond to these questions on our blog.

Our sixth response is to Jasper Bassett:

Jasper, in your memo you stated, “Don’t eat anything that will make you sick.” We wish we could take that advice, but there are times when we have to eat what is served to us. When situations like that arise, we hope for the best.

The first few months in Indonesia we were sick quite a bit, but now we have become adjusted to the water and the change in the foods we eat. It was very miserable going through the adjustment period. For people who only travel one or two weeks out of the US at a time almost always are sick for several days during their trip. It’s referred to as “Travellers Sickness,” or “Travelers’ Diarrhea.”

So, if you ever have plans of living and working outside of the US for an extended period of time, be aware that you will also have to go through the unpleasant adjustment period!
