Indonesian Currency

The paper currency of Indonesia is in rupiah, and it comes in denominations of 1,000;  2,000;  5,000;  10,000;  20,000;  50,000 and  100,000 bills (there are also an assortment of coins).

On the front side of the 100,000 rupiah banknote is a picture of Sukarno (alt. spelling, “Soekarno.” He only had one name, like many Indonesians), and Mohammad Hatta. Sukarno became the first President of Indonesia, and Hatta the first Vice President.

On the back side of the 100,000 rupiah banknote is a picture of the DPR/MPR Building. It is the seat of government for the Indonesian legislative, which comprises the People’s Consultative Assembly (Majelis Permusyaratan Rakyat, MPR) the People’s Representative Council (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat, DPR)  and the Regional Representatives Council (Dewan Perwakilan Daerah, DPD).
