Makam Arab Melayu
Almost all areas of Indonesia have been influenced by immigrants from Arabia. Jambi is no different. More information can be read about these Arab immigrants, and their descendants, from a previous post of ours.
On the north side of the Batanghari River, across from the City of Jambi, there is a cemetery that contains the graves of many of these Arab descendants. The name on the cemetery is “Makam Arab Melayu.” The word makam means grave, and Melayu is the name given to the original inhabitants of the area. Since the male immigrants from Arabia intermarried with the local women, their descendants are referred to as Arab Melayu.”
Below is a video we made of the cemetery known as “Makam Arab Melayu.”
