Songket that was woven in Jambi.

Indonesian Traditional Clothing

Songket is a very expensive cloth that is used to make traditional Indonesian clothing. This cloth is primarily only used during weddings and other official ceremonies. A piece of cloth, measuring 24″ x 36″, can cost from $150 – $300 (USD), depending on how much silver and gold thread is woven into the fabric. Another reason why it is so expensive is that it can take up to two months to make.

Songket weaving is also reflected on the back of the Indonesian 5,000 rupiah bank note.
