Fried chicken in Indonesia consists of a whole chicken chopped up into small pieces, feet and all.

Traditionally, Indonesians don’t cut their chickens up like what is customary in the USA. They typically take a cleaver and cut the chicken up into small pieces, like what is reflected in the picture at the right. The pieces are then thrown into a wok and fried in deep oil.

There are restaurants in Indonesia that will cut the chicken up into legs, thighs, breasts, etc., but these are usually the restaurants like Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).

Indonesian businesses will often take something popular in the USA, then make a product similar in name. KFC is very famous in Indonesia and can be seen in every major city. Branching off from KFC, Indonesians have started their own famous restaurant chain called CFC (California Fried Chicken). We saw one creative entrepreneur who used their local Indonesian city’s name (Muara Bulian) for their little warung (roadside restaurant), and they call it BFC (Bulian Fried Chicken)!
