Teen & Kid Questions

Indonesian Rain Forest

Today we received a card from some friends of ours in the USA who recently visited the Fort Wayne, Indiana zoo. While there they enjoyed an excursion through the Indonesian Rain Forest exhibit.

Zoos are great places for people to learn about animals of the world.

Audrey, Noah, and Jess, while at the Indonesian rain forest exhibit at the Fort Wayne, Indiana zoo.

We recently assisted in a gift / letter exchange from young girls in the United States and young girls in Indonesia. The process went like this:

Jess, showing a bracelet she made.

  1. A group of girls in the US asked us to take pictures of about 10 Indonesian girls.
  2. After taking the pictures, we sent them to the girls in the US.
  3. The girls in the US had a party, and spent the time writing letters and making bracelets & necklaces for the Indonesian girls.
  4. The US girls sent us the letters, bracelets & necklaces, as well as pictures of themselves next to the picture of the Indonesian girl they made the gift for.
  5. P. distributed the letters and gifts to the Indonesian girls.

RESPONDING TO OUR FRIENDS

Some American teens & school children who are curious about life here in Indonesia have been asking us questions via email / letters. We thought we would respond to these questions on our blog. Our seventeenth response is to Marah Taylor:

Marah, in response to your correspondence, we wanted to let you know that it will be another 1 1/2 years before we go back to the US. Though we have passed through the worst stages of culture shock, we still miss our family and friends, and P. really misses the “turkey sandwiches on sourdough bread” at Cracker Barrel!

*We added the “girl’s name” after the title of this post for our Indonesian friends. If they would have seen this, they would think we were saying– “answering in an angry way,” since the word “marah” means angry, or mad, in Bahasa Indonesia.
